Bath accessories are the essential finishing touches in a bathroom, including items like towel bars, robe hooks, towel rings, and toilet paper holders. These accessories provide convenience, functionality, and organization, ensuring that the bathroom is practical for daily use. In a new home, bath accessories enhance both the aesthetic appeal and usability of the space, keeping towels, robes, and other items within easy reach. Typically, these accessories are installed during the final stages of construction, once the walls are painted, fixtures are in place, and the bathroom is nearly complete. Properly installing these accessories ensures that the bathroom is both functional and visually cohesive.
Tools Needed:
Stud Finder
Tape Measure
2’ Level or Torpedo Level
Drill with ⅛” & ⅜” bits
Impact Driver with Phillips bit
Supplies:
Drywall Anchors & Accompanying Screws
¾” or 1” Screws
Materials:
Bath Accessories (Towel Bars, Rings, Hooks, Toilet Paper Holder, etc.)
Quality Check Criteria:
Ensure everything is secure before walking away.
Confirm that accessories are straight and level.
Process to Install Bath Accessories:
General Placement:
Use builder-provided placement details. If the builder doesn't provide guidance, use the following recommended measurements:
Robe Hooks/Towel Hooks: Install 60" up from the finished floor and 10-12" from the shower, other accessories, or each other.
Towel Bars: Install 42-48" off the finished floor and within easy reach of the shower or tub. Ensure the bar is level and secure.
Towel Ring Installation:
Place 24” off the countertop, centered on the depth of the vanity side wall.
Loosen the Allen screw on the backplate and mark its placement.
Ensure the plate is oriented correctly (not sideways or upside down).
Use a stud finder to check if the marks align with a stud. If so, secure the plate using screws. If not, drill a ⅜” bit for drywall anchors.
Tap in the anchors, then secure the backplate with screws.
Attach the towel ring over the backplate and tighten the Allen screw. Wiggle to ensure it's secure.
Toilet Paper Holder Installation:
Place the holder roughly 26" off the finished floor and 10-12" from the toilet.
Position it slightly in front of the bowl for easy reach.
Use a stud finder to determine whether screws can go directly into the wall or if drywall anchors are necessary.
Drill pilot holes, insert anchors if needed, and secure the holder in place.
Final Inspection:
Ensure all accessories are securely fastened, straight, and level.
Confirm that everything is placed within reasonable reach of the shower, toilet, or vanity.
